RIKI HITS GAME WINNER IN SWISH TOURNAMENT

Riki’s RUHS team finished an uneven Swish tournament this weekend with an 18-16 offensively-challenged victory over St. Mary’s of Inglewood this afternoon at University High School in Irvine. Riki hit the game winning 3-pointer with 10 seconds left.

Riki had an 11-pt game yesterday in a 17-point loss to the Arizona Fire club team. Included in her 3 for 3 3-point shooting day was a shot from beyond half-court at the buzzer ending the first half. Swish!

RUHS defeated Mercadel, another club team, by 15 on Friday night but lost earlier in the day to a club team from the Bay Area.

RUHS split two games on Wednesday during its summer league, defeating Harvard-Westlake and losing to Serra (Inglewood). These two games followed their early morning flight back from Portland where they took their share of lumps en route to an 0-3 performance in the End of the Oregon Trail national tournament’s Gold bracket. Along the way, they lost to teams from Minnesota, Seattle and the Bay Area.

RUHS continues playing tomorrow and Wednesday in their summer league before traveling on Thursday for the San Diego Classic tournament. Their first game is Thursday at 6 p.m. at Alliant University versus San Diego Mater Dei.

On a side note, Riki was named to the 10th Grade Southern California squad for the annual North/South game for Japanese American and Asian players from N. and S. California. We will travel up to Pleasanton, CA on August 1-3 for the games.
